In order to give a fillip to the age old system of traditional Sanskrit learning in several Shastras, a Symposium of erudite Sanskrit Pandits representing various streams of Shastric learning, PANDITA PARISHAD was organized for 3 days from March 20th to 22nd 1999. Erudite Sanskrit pandits from various parts of India converged at Adi Sankara Nilayam to take stock of the status of traditional Indian lores and learning in our country and to discuss new ways and means for their revival and dissemination. These scholars delineated ways of disseminating the lores after updating them in the light of comparative religion and trans-cultural approaches. The social relevance of ancient cultural paradigms were also discussed and defined. All Kerala Chinmaya Mission workers conference was organized on 20th June 1999. The proceedings of the Pandita Parishad on ‘Sastradhyayana Parampara Tat Pragatprakalpascha’ was compiled and brought out and released on 3rd August 1999 on the solemn Samadhi day of Swami Chinmayanandaji. CIF recognized the need to make shifts in research paradigms and keep pace with the new research trends and emerging research frontiers. Consequently, on the eve of the new millennium, a Workshop on Research Methodology was organized for four days on 11th November 1999. The success of Indological studies depends on the dissemination of Indian heritage and cultural values. With this vision in mind, CIF decided to develop on an ongoing basis, a store house of information on various aspects of Indian art, architecture, cultural studies, religions, philosophies and other aspects of Ancient Indian Scientific heritage. As an extension of this, a five day orientation course on Indian Heritage was conducted at the Centre Of World Understanding, Chinmaya Mission, New Delhi in collaboration with CIF. CIF soon plans to launch its ‘Heritage Awareness Course’ and is at present engaged in preparing the course material.
