This year, on May 8th, 2011, we have the unique coincidence of the jayantis of Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda and the glorious saint Adi Sankara. It is thus natural for CIF to feel celebratory about the forthcoming Adi Sankara Mahotsavam, starting on 4th May and concluding on 8th May, the day that has always traditionally been celebrated as Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda’s Jayanti day, which uniquely coincides this year with the date for Adi Sankara Jayanti!
Each of the five days will see a detailed scholastic and spiritual examination of a Sankara text. On the opening day, 4th, there will be an exposition on Sri Sankara’s works. The 5th is dedicated to Soundaryalahiri, 6th to Tattva Bodha, 7th to Siva Manasa Puja and 8th to Dasha Sloki. Apart from these, each day will see the chanting of Sankara’s verses, study and reflection on some of his texts in the serene surroundings of Adi Sankara Nilayam, recalling to mind and revelling in the glory of this great saint. Each day will also see the performance of special pujas to elevate the mind to revel in Sri Sankara and his glory.
This is an event of great significance to CIF and India and it is with this joy that we approach you to come to Adi Sankara Nilayam and partake of the divinity of these five days.
