Introduction

Svadhyaya Series is an online immersive text-based study programme. It is a unique initiative of CIF towards fulfilling Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda’s vision of bridging 'the pundit and the public'.

Selected treatises are divided topically into different lessons for an in-depth study and comprehension. Svadhyaya Series will contain the lectures on lessons by expert faculty in video/audio format, a questionnaire at the end of every lesson, facility to learn from fellow students through an online Discussion Forum, and a chance to clear doubts from subject experts.

  1. Freedom to choose from a variety of Courses varying from basic to advanced levels based on your current knowledge on the subject and liking
  2. Access to high quality videos and/or audio
  3. Ease of studying at your own pace wherever you are located and even while you are travelling
  4. Objective-type questionnaires to check your comprehension and enhance your reflection
  5. Facility to discuss with other fellow students through a vibrant online Discussion Forum for fortifying your understanding and clearing your doubts
  6. Option to clarify doubts with subject experts
  7. Certificate of Completion from Chinmaya International Foundation
  1. Register for the course of your choice:

    Choose a course offered under the Svadhyaya Series and register online.

  2. Watch/Listen and Answer the Questionnaire:
    • Watch and/listen to the lectures pertaining to the text. The entire course is structured into lessons with a logical flow. The student is given access to the lectures of the lesson. Once there is good comprehension of the subject the student can then attempt the questionnaire before proceeding to the next lesson.
    • A questionnaire can be reattempted but the grades of the subsequent attempts will not be considered for the purpose of evaluation and certification.
    • The basic purpose of the questionnaires are to facilitate the student’s comprehension of the lesson. The questionnaires need not be attempted in one-go.
    • Once the questionnaire of a lesson is submitted, the lectures of the next lesson will be available for watching/listening.
  3. Discussion Forum:
    • A Discussion Forum is provided for the students to discuss their doubts with fellow students related to the topics covered.
    • If any question(s) is left unanswered, then the student can email their doubts to svadhyaya@chinfo.org, which will be answered by the Course Facilitator.
  4. Doubt Clarification:

    If doubt(s) still remains unresolved, then a LIVE online discussion with the Course Facilitator can be requested for.

All those who have completed the course will be awarded a Certificate of completion by Chinmaya International Foundation. Assessment of grades will be based on the marks obtained in the first attempt of all tests.

Amritabindu-upanishad
Amritabindu-upanishad is one of the very concise Upanishads belonging to the Atharva-veda, and comes under the category of minor. The term ‘minor’ is to indicate that it is not one of the 10 Upanishads upon which Sri Sankaracharya has written a commentary.
Tattvabodha – Basic
Tattvabodha, authored by Adi Shankaracharya is a prakarana-grantha, an introductory or topical text. Tattvabodha defines all the terms and terminologies used in the Vedanta Shastra, even while presenting the essence of Vedanta in a simple question-answer style. Tattvabodha thus is a comprehensive ‘book of Vedantic definitions’.
Tattvabodha – Advanced
Tattvabodha, authored by Adi Shankaracharya is a prakarana-grantha, is an introductory or topical text. Its purpose is to define all the terms and terminologies used in the Vedanta Shastra even while presenting the essence of Vedanta in a simple question-answer style or ‘akanksha-prakriya’.
Vakya-vritti
Vakya-vritti, a renowned composition of Sri Adi Sankaracharya, expounds the meaning of the famous mahavakya “Tat tvam asi.” Mahavakyas are short concise Upanishadic statements that present the final essence of Vedanta – the identity of the individual with Brahman.

Vedic Suktas-1
Veda means knowledge. Vedic literature comprising the Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda, is the ancient-most repository of knowledge extant in Sanskrit language. Apart from the 4 Samhitas, mentioned here, there is the literature known as Brahmanas, Aranyakas and the Upanishads.
