The scope of Brahmavidya is jiva, jagat, Isvara and Brahman. Upanishads through discussions establish ‘jiva-Brahma aikya’, the identity between jiva and Brahman. The Mundaka Upanishad, conforming to the same approach, presents these concepts in a unique manner with beautiful analogies in three chapters each with two sections. Through the study of this Upanishad the seeker is enabled to falsify the world and realise the oneness, which is the essential Truth. The text also prescribes appropriate meditative techniques to realise the supreme Truth.
Mundakopanishad, consisting of sixty four mantras, rendered in a picturesque language, couched in varied and charming metres and diction, which are uniformly sublime, belongs to the Atharva-veda. All ardent seekers will benefit by practising repeated contemplation upon its teachings. This Upanisad contains some of the most famous, beautiful and oft-quoted analogies in the literature of the Upanisads.
Swami Chinmayananda has vividly painted the holistic approach of this Upanishad through his commentary in English.
