Maha Shivaratri is a Hindu festival celebrated annually in honour of Lord Shiva. This festival marks the remembrance of overcoming darkness and ignorance in one’s life and the world. One popular story behind celebrating the Maha Shivaratri is that it was on this day that Lord Shiva drank the Kalakuta poison which came out from the ocean to save the earth and its inhabitants. Thus, the festival resonates the compassion, love and grace of the Lord towards His devotees.
The Sahasra Linga Archana is a unique vedic ritual performed to worship Lord Shiva as Uma Parthiveshvara Swami. It will be performed with 1,116 mruthika Shiva Lingas also called as Parthiva Lingas, made out of well prepared and sanctified clay. These Lingas will be arranged in the form of Mount Kailas Prastaram, which is a depiction of Shiva Kailas with 16 Havaianas and 1,116 Rudra swaroopas. Siva Shakti will be invoked into each Siva Linga through Vedic mantras during the Shodasa Aavarana Puja and worshiped with great devotion and bhakti to seek the blessings of Sri Uma Parthiveshvara Swami for spiritual bliss, good health, will power, memory, knowledge, prosperity, peace and Moksha.
