Adi Sankara & Chinmaya Mahotsavam 2018
Chinmaya International Foundation invites you to Adi Sankara Mahotsavam 2018 ~ Devoted to the study of
Aparokshanubhuti with Swami Advayananda, Acharya CIF
Kanakadhara Stotram with Swami Sharadananda Sarasvati, Acharya CIF
at Adi Sankara Nilayam
(ancestral birth home of Sri Adi Sankaracharya)
The Self cannot be perceived by senses; nor can It be captured by mind and intellect. But It can be realised intuitively by the innermost self-experience (aparokshanubhuti). Using his unique poetic style, Adi Sankaracharya elucidates the path to Self-realisation in a well-known Prakarana-grantha titled Aparokshanubhuti.
Kanakadhara Stotram was composed by Sri Adi Sankara beseeching Devi Mahalakshmi to shower Her grace on the poor lady who could only offer a single amalaka as bhiksha to Sri Adi Sankara. This enchanting composition is filled with divine beauty and devotion.

The Adi Sankara & Chinmaya Mahotsavam Camp was organised from April 19th-23rd to celebrate Sri Adi Sankara Jayanti and Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda Jayanti. The camp started with the welcoming of Swami Advayananda and Swami Sharadananda Sarasvati with the purna-kumbha. Invocation was done by Smt Radhika Modur, Administrator, CIF Home Study Courses and welcome speech and introduction by Dr. Sreenathan, Academic Director, CIF.
The main texts for the camp were Sri Adi Sankara’s Aparokshanubhuti and Kanakadhara Stotram, expounded by Swami Advayananda and Swami Sharadananda Sarasvati, respectively. Swami Sharadananda also conducted the Sri Sankara Jayanti Pooja on 20th April in the holy birth-room of Sri Adi Sankaracharya. On 23rd April, Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayanadaji’s Nakshatra Jayanti was celebrated at Gurudev’s Shrine. On the occasion Gurupaduka Puja was conducted by Br. Ved Chaitanya.
Aparokshanubhuti, literally meaning the direct experience of the Self, is an important text on Advaita Vedanta. It elaborates on the central theme of Vedanta, the identity of the self as Supreme Brahman. The text has some very unique expositions and gives valuable insights on the spiritual pursuit. Kanakadhara Stotram is a composition beseeching Devi Mahalakshmi to shower Her grace on the poor lady who could only offer a single amalaka as bhiksha to Sri Adi Sankara. This enchanting composition is filled with divine beauty and devotion. Many campers spoke of having seen the mighty intellect of Sri Adi Sankaracharya in his composition Aparokshanubhuti and his great flight of devotion to Sri Mahalakshmi in Kanakadhara Stotram.
Eighty-five people attended the camp: 58 on-site and 27 online.
