Chinmaya International Foundation and School of Vedic Maths under the auspices of Chinmaya Mission, Pune conducted the second 4-day annual residential camp on Vedic Mathematics at Chinmaya Maauli ashram. 30 participants mainly between 11 and 13 years of age attended the camp held from 25th to 28th April 2017. The faculty, Shri Vinay Nair, kept the participants' enthusiasm high through topics like subtraction, multiplication, digital root, patterns in squaring and explorations in puzzles based on Vedic Mathematics. The focus was not just on developing faster calculation skills but also on explorative learning in Mathematics. At every juncture, the students were forced to think and give out the reason/logic behind any observation they saw in numbers. The participants understood how logic has to be supplied for every observation inorder to be accepted as a Mathematical proof. The difference between Scientific and Mathematical Thinking was also discussed. At the end of every session a puzzle was posed with a prize for the winner. The perseverance and passion of the children was commendable. Shri R Shanker, an amateur magician and a dedicated sevak of Chinmaya Mission Pune, thrilled the children with a magic show which was a combination of math and magic. The participants enjoyed the Math behind the Magic. The evenings were spent with Swami Siddheshananda and Brni. Maitreyi who took games, bhajans and meditation. The camp was a great success and all the participants thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. In the feedback, they mentioned that they looked forward to the next camp.
