My understanding is that the results of punya and papa will come when they are destined to come. But if while doing karma the attitude is "karma yoga way", then ,due to purification of mind the suffering due to the effects/results will be reduced to the extent to which the mind is purified. Is my understanding correct OR papa is really removed by punya ?

It is like a balance if you have 10 coins of papa and you start doing good actions punya and accumulate 11 coins that your punya tally goes up. However, ultimately even punya which can give you a better quality of life (this life, or in heavens) is not the utilmate goal, but rather to do an action and dedicate that action as a service to god, as that helps purify your mind and can lead to enlightenment (moksha), which is even better than being in heavens. (but if you want to be in heaven and have a good life in the next life for example do more punya).

Hari om thank you for responding Manisha . Do u mean to say 1coin of punya which is the resultant of 10 coins of papa and 11 coins of punya in the balance will result in future joy pertaining to that 1 coin only? And do u mean to say 10 coins of Papa gets nullified and one need not worry about those papas? Somehow I am not convinced.

Hari Om. I dont tink think that papa and punya can be nullifieid. One has to suffer for the papa karmas performed and in the event of performing punya karmas that suffering which one has to undergo for the papa karmas, the impact will not be felt too much. You can take the iinstance of Ramana Maharshi getting cancer. An ordinary person getting it would have suffered a lot. But Maharshi took it lightly because he was abiding in the self. Law of Karma has to operate and it cannot be nullified.

Hari om. Thank you H.S. now the answer is clear. I had not listened to the Q&A session 1 . Now I listened to it and someone there has asked the same question and Vedji has answered it very clearly. And I am more than convinced. Thanks to Vedji.

Swamiji had explained that Punya nullifies Paapa only when doing action without expectations and offered as worship to God. In that case alone, there is purity of mind by Punya negating Paapa. In all other cases Jiva has to bear the joys of punya and sorrows of paapa.
In case of Ramana Maharishi, his mind was quite pure - He would say that body itself is a wound -- so cancer in the body is wound within a wound etc. Such masters who abide in the Self are not concerned with bodily afflictions
