Karma Yoga (KY) is about right action (which results in punya) but with selfless worship attitude (which results in purity of mind)

Paapa and Punya are exhausted by KY- the paapa here came from past unrighteous actions and Punya is exhausted in destroying Paapa instead of fructifying as pleasures

In that sense there cannot be paapa in KY

But, one thought comes to mind is

in karma - there is punya & papa ..

Karma yoga concept applies for Right action only ...

Then in KY how comes Punya & papa .....

KY with punya intention understood ..

But , any example of KY arises papa ?

Hari Om! Swamiji talked about it in D2 of the second part of Chapter 2 - perhaps listening to it again might help?

Some notes from that explanation are copied below if needed

In KY (Karma Yoga) unlike in desire prompted activities
There is no destruction (nashaha) of abhikrama (Abhikramayete iti Abhikrama)

Abhikrama - that which begins immediately after performing action i.e Punya and usually this Punya is destroyed by giving rise to fleeting pleasures in the here and hereafter.

Here punya is not wasted. In vedas, lot of punya karmas are stated. There are special activities pointed out i.e. yagya, yagas -- which are capable of creating mighty punyas -- these great punyas fructify themselves as embodiments in higher lokas. Highest is Brahmaloka -- punya is wasted this way. Wasted why? After you experience pleasure again you are born - in lower embodiments possible. Here, in KY, that waste is not happening

No Pratyavaya
Pratyavaya - Defect (Dosha) (e.g. Dakshina after puja not given) of not performing noble action to perfection -- that fault is called Pratyavaya. Akarane Pratyavaya

The beauty of KY is by any chance you take noble activity - action with attitude of KY even if it is not complete for any reason (e.g. sick, no assistance for completing work since action is complex involving many factors) -- the defect of incompletion does not happen. What you are interested is not a future pleasure - not intending to go to svarga loka etc. mind is different, attitude is different--therefore there is no issue due to that. The defect of incompletion does not arise for person doing KY - the attitude matters. The results of future pleasure is not your intent. Therefore, even a wee bit brings its result of purification and it will help you realize the truth and put and end to samsara. What you want is inner transformation--so the topic of pleasure is not there.

Even a bit done protects you from great danger
