Chinmaya International Foundation Shodha Sansthan brings you a two-part workshop on Siddhāntaleśasaṅgraha, a textual study guided by Prof. V. Kutumba Sastri in Sanskrit.

Appayya Dīkṣita had collected gems of wisdom from the vast Vedantic literature and compiled them to form the treatise called Sidhhāntaleśasaṅgraha, so named as if to testify its content.

Siddhāntaleśasaṅgraha elucidates the opinions of Vācaspatimiśra, Vivaraṇācārya, Ānandabodhācārya, Citsukhācārya, Vidyāraṇya, Sureśvarācārya, Nṛsimhabhaṭṭopādhyāya, Kaumudīkāra, Vedāntasiddhāntamuktāvalīkāra etc. in such a way so as to be brief but complete and presented in the order in which these texts advance further from the previous view.

Please note:

1. Part 2 of the workshop will be held from  January 20, 2018 to February 04, 2018

2. Course fee is for the entire course conducted in two parts, includes food and twin-sharing accommodation and is non-refundable.

‘Vedanta Unveiled’ is a unique annual Vedāntic Retreat with Pūjya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda organised by Chinmaya International Foundation (CIF) at the sacred environs of Adi Sankara Nilayam, the birth home of the great Ācārya of Advaita-vedānta, Śrī Ādi Śaṅkara. This year Pūjya Guruji would ‘unveil’ the subtle concepts of Vedānta through the Mānḍūkya Upaniṣad and take the participants to the pinnacles of the Inner Experience. Swami Advayananda will expound on the 'Daśaśloki' of Ādi Śaṅkarāchārya.

This is indeed a rare opportunity to study the best of the Upanishads from the best of the teachers in the best of the places! That too during the most auspicious celebrations of the Diwali.

The Yuktidīpikā excels over all other commentaries in many respects. It contains all the excellences of a complete philosophical text such as aphorisms, means of knowledge, components, completeness, statement of uncertainty and decisiveness, brief enunciation, detailed statement, succession, naming the objects and advice. It illustrates all these elements of Sāṅkhyakārikā and its approach to the wording of the kārikās is quite critical and analytical. The author also gives the etymological meaning of the technical terms to justify their use by Īśvarakṛṣṇa. The Yuktidīpikā justifies not only the reading of the Sāṅkhyakārikā but also the contents of the Sāṅkhya System. It is the only text which saves the system of Sāṅkhya from the intellectual onslaught at the hands of other systems.

Though Yuktidīpikā is complete and very unique commentary on Sāṅkhya still this is taught rarely in any college or university. Keeping the significant of this text, Chinmaya International Foundation Shodha Sansthan and Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth jointly organise the textual workshop for ten days on Yuktidīpikā, to learn and discuss the topics deeply and thoroughly.

Demand Draft/Cheques to be drawn in favour of Chinmaya International Foundation Shodha Sansthan payable at Piravom.

Knowledge Representation is a multidisciplinary subject that applies theories and techniques from three other fields: . Logic provides the formal structure and rules of inference. . Ontology defines the kinds of things that exist in the application domain. . Computation supports the applications that distinguish knowledge representation from pure philosophy. It is a very good intellectual exercise to the researchers and teachers in higher education to understand and get familiarity in the knowledge representation schemes, which helps them in formalizing their ideas. Course Content . Introduction to Knowledge Representation . History of KR in East and West . Formal Language : Artificial Language Vs Natural Language . Navya Nyaya formal Language – A practical approach . Western Formal Language – An introduction . Synergy of the both – An experiment . Symbolic Logic . It is not known when exactly the study of Sanskrit began in Kerala. It must have been much earlier than the beginning of the Kollam era. The Avantisundarikatha of Dandin belonging to the Seventh Century A.D. refers to great Sanskrit scholars from Kerala like Matridatta and his father Bhavarata. The great Mimamsa teacher Prabhakara is claimed by tradition to have been a son of Kerala and the great Advaitin Sankaracharya is accepted to have been born at Veliyanad near to Kaladi in Central Kerala. Sanskrit literature may be considered to have begun to develop in Kerala about the 7th century A.D. From about the eighth or ninth century, there has been a continuous growth of the study and original productions of Sanskrit literature, due to Kerala’s peculiar Social Culture, the joint family system and abundant participation and patronage to literature, besides the intimate co-ordination of the local language with Sanskrit. In his history, Vatakkumkur has attempted to give a full account of this growth of Sanskrit literature of Kerala with all its branches – Vedic exegesis, philosophy, religion, pure literature, grammar, rhetoric, technical literature and fine arts. A very considerable portion of his source materials comes from ancient manuscripts preserved not only in public collections but in the numerous private homes. We find similar case in the Keralasahityacharitram by Ullur S. Parameswara Iyer in which also a considerable amount of Sanskrit literature of Kerala is dealt with. But the sources are not mentioned in these two works. The only exception in this matter is the valuable research work, the contribution of Kerala to Sanskrit literature by Dr. K. Kunjunni Raja, hence the scope of more research work is to be done. Kerala is very rich in writing tradition of manuscripts on tali-ola in the field of Ayurveda, Mathematics, Shilpa, Dharmashastra, Kavya, Vyakarana, etc. Narayana Pandita, Madhava, Parameswara, Bhaskara-II, Nilakantha Somayaji, Narayana Bhattatiri, Sankaracharya, Ramapanivada, Rajarajavarma, Krishnalilasuka and many more Keralite scholars have composed their works in Sanskrit and Malayalam literature, Arts and Science. Few of them have come to light and rest are still laying unpublished. A good deal of them are still unknown and believed to be in the possession of institutions, individuals, royal families and religious sects. New research methodologies have devised by the researchers and universities so that we may reach new horizon of knowledge. Note: . The programme will begin on 1st August in the forenoon and end on 2nd August 2012 afternoon. . Research papers should reach on or before 20th July. . Confirmation of participation should reach on or before 28th July. . Arrival details may be informed in due time. . Participants are requested to arrive at the venue in the morning of Ist August and to plan their return journey on 2nd August evening. . Boarding and Lodging charges Rs. 200/- per head

This puja is performed only once a year on Gurudev’s star date for the welfare of all mankind and all creation, including sanctifying the temple and enhancing the glory of our temples at CIF. This is a divine opportunity to worship Gurudev and we invite you to offer Kalasa puja in the name of your family, as also paduka puja in the Gurudev Shrine. Annadana will also be offered that day. The options are many, we invite you to take your pick and celebrate with us the holy star that blessed us with our Gurudev. WORKSHOP AIM The tradition of textual exegesis is a unique distinguishing feature of all Indian Schools among which Advaita occupies a prominent place. This school possesses a rich legacy of texts written over a period of centuries that has been preserved through an unbroken chain of teachers and disciples. These thinkers have produced several texts that shed light not only on the fundamental tenets of Advaita but also on the complex articulation of the nuances relating to Advaita meta-physics, epistemology, ethics and so on. Advaita textual tradition includes commentaries, super commentaries and glosses written on the triple texts (prasthana-traya) of Vedanta, namely the Upanishads, the Brahmasutras and the Bhagavadgita, besides a large number of independent treatises. The system of Advaita has undergone a long period of evolution during which it had to face very powerful criticisms from other systems of Indian Philosophy, both orthodox and heterodox. However, such criticism, whenever it happened to have a constructive dimension, has forced Advaitins to seek answers to them from time to time thus making Advaita Vedanta a rigorous system with unparalleled logical consistency free of dogmatism. This nondogmatic growth was attained largely because of the critical spirit embodied in the texts. The composition of such texts in a continuous fashion has lead to the preservation of the dynamism of the system thus preventing it from stagnation. Human reasoning and scriptural authority have always been given their due place in Advaita Vedanta and hence today, when it has the opportunity to interact with philosophies the world over, it has carved a niche for itself among the leading philosophies of the world. This workshop aims at acquainting the student with the fundamentals of the six schools of Indian Philosophy and the six means of knowledge. Advaita Vedanta and the complexities of its nuances will also be dealt with exhaustively.

Kalasa Puja Celebrations @ Adi Sankara Nilayam The Guru presents Himself to his devotees on various occasions to give us a chance to sit at His feet and feel His presence, abide in His being, imbibe His teachings and in the spirit of the community, express our collective and individual love for Him! Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah! The star birth date for us is one more reason to go running back to His feet, tug at His heart and ask for His blessings. And that is exactly what we will do on 22nd April, 2010 when Gurudev’s star Puya ( Pushya )Nakshatra falls. At CIF this day is always celebrated with great fanfare and reverence, for CIF was one of Gurudev’s pet dreams. An elaborate Kalasa Puja will be performed, when all the hallowed deities in the Adi Sankara Nilyam complex (where Gurudev set up CIF, where Adi Sankara is reputed to have offered worship many hundred years ago and where our own Gurudev worshipped too), will be sanctified with the water form these 101 Kalasas. Above all, strengthen your sadhana, as Gurudev wished for you to, and seek His blessings through this puja.
