Chinmaya International Foundation and School of Vedic Maths completed the 9th annual residential camp Vedic Mathrix from 16th to 20th April, 2018 at Chinmaya International Foundation. 60 math-enthusiasts, including children and adults, participated in the camp. The faculty, Shri Vinay Nair, took the participants through topics like Magic Squares, Katapayadi Number System and Modern day Cryptography.

During the sessions the participants were engaged in discovering patterns in creating Magic Squares, coming up with claims and conjectures, and trying to prove or disprove them. The participants enjoyed debates on topics like social media and artificial intelligence. The daily informal discussions post dinner helped the campers to bond with each other. The participants appreciated that they were inspired to ‘invent’ their own Algorithms for creating Magic Squares and that they were not 'taught' techniques which they had to mug up.

Since the topic was Magic Squares and Cryptography, Asst. Prof. at Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth Dr. Varun Khanna, sharing his personal experiences, showed how Sanskrit as a key opens a lot of locks in our lives. All the participants enjoyed the master-class session. On the second last day, the students gave an excellent performance through a cultural programme displaying their talents in areas outside Mathematics.

The camp was a success and the participants gathered a lot of interesting questions to work on even after the camp. The campers said that they would be looking forward to the camp next year.
