Chinmaya International Foundation has initiated a drive to become a self-sufficient institution. We are triggering new projects to conserve our natural resources and promote sustainable practices to meet our immediate and future needs. With the shrinking rainfall in Kerala over the years it has become more and more important to conserve our freshwater reserves to safeguard ourselves. CIF proposes to expand a pond at Adi Sankara Nilayam and turn into a clean and beautiful space to capture and conserve our natural fresh water supply.
The construction of ponds in Kerala is an age old concept in Kerala and CIF wishes to revive this traditional water harvesting technique and become less reliant on outside sources. We hope that after the construction of the pond it will be filled to the brim with fresh water to be used upcoming ‘go-green’ projects at CIF.
The Department of Agriculture in Kerala has consented to give us a subsidy to grow and harvest our own vegetables and fruits. The water needed to irrigate the fields will be drawn from the pond and the soil excavated from the site will be used to level the fields where the crops will be planted. To fertilize the soil a biogas plant will be constructed to generate natural gas and produce fertilizer.
We appeal to all to contribute generously to towards our conservation efforts. This project is estimated to costs about 25 lakhs Indian rupees which will cover various expenses, such as:
* Excavation works
* Water drainage and leveling
* Water reticulation
* Constructing bench for recreation and relaxation
